I found these photos from dinner we had at a lovely place in Pittsburgh when I went to visit!

Owais and I worked with Cindy back in the naughts at AOL. Cindy Li was one of the most delightful human beings we were able to call a friend. Cindy was our resident photographer at our AOL holiday parties (taking reindeer pix with a light-up red nose), and our resident CosPlayer - with the most amazing Queen Amidala outfit I’ve ever seen outside of Hollywood. Cindy was a connector of worlds.

Cindy Li was someone whose talent I was in absolute awe of. I heard of her before I met her. I fell in love with a t-shirt design at an event and practically attacked the person wearing it to find out where they got it. I remember it well. It was a simple row of icons: geeky glasses, a heart and an asterisk. The wearer told me that someone named “Cindy Li” had designed it and I could buy it online.

Don’t know how we spotted it, but we did. Such heart.

Sad that I don’t have many photos of Cindy, but then realized that her Facebook page is chock full of photos that represent all her creativity and her love of friends. Glad I found this one of us when we visited Pittsburgh a year ago.

Sitting here having the song “You Are My Sunshine” play over and over in my head. And then it came to me. So..I found my trusty yearbook and turned to this page.

Visiting my family this weekend and chatting with my Mom about old times with Cindy. My mom is a big crafts person and Cindy and her always enjoyed chatting about arts and crafts and showing each other projects. While we were talking she brought out a piece of art Cindy had made that I had gotten for my mom. It’s a beautiful piece and thought I would share a little of Cindy’s high school work.

I don’t remember how Cindy and I became friends. I never worked on any projects with Cindy during my times at AOL from 2002 to 2007. Cindy was at AOL from 1998 to 2007 in our Dulles, Virginia headquarter. She just seemed to pop into my cubicle one day with her dazzling smile out on a visit to our West Coast office. We just connected. As a professional, Cindy is such a talented person.
